Mechanical Engineer

Location: Rotterdam, NL Commitment: Full time Experience: 3+ years

The Mission

At AddOptics, we design and manufacture precision lenses for the next generation of smart eyewear. Our lenses integrate the newest technology (such as electronics and displays) seamlessly with vision correction, and allows the end user to experience the next generation of smart glasses in the most comfortable way. As we scale and expand our products and production capabilities we are also expanding our engineering team in our technology center in Rotterdam.

As part of the engineering team, you'll take practical engineering challenges from problem to validated solution. You'll design the parts, tooling, and experiments to improve our products and processes. You can realize your designs using our our in-house R&D lab equipment, measure the results, and use the data to decide what comes next. Your projects can range from new lens designs and mold tooling to materials testing and manufacturing process improvements.

This is hands-on, applied engineering: you design it, make it, test it, improve it, and prove that it works reliably.

What You’ll Be Working On

  • Owning mechanical development projects from problem definition through to validation of the results, as part of the engineering team.

  • Developing prototype product designs, tooling, processes improvements, and implementing them into a production process.

  • Designing backwards from the end-product requirements, considering materials, tolerances, manufacturing capabilities, and metrology.

  • Designing and running structured experiments that produce actionable conclusions.

  • Making, assembling, testing, and iterating parts using our in-house fabrication and casting capabilities.

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience

  • A BSc/BEng or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering field

  • Proficient in 3D CAD and experience creating technical drawings, working with GD&T, and designing for manufacturing

  • Real hands-on fabrication experience. From prototyping / additive manufacturing tools to collaborating with high volume part suppliers.

  • Experience with precision measurement and metrology methods

  • Ability to decipher conflicting outcomes and work with moving requirements

  • Professional working proficiency in English

The Kind of Person Who Thrives Here

You're a practical engineer with a strong analytical background, who likes moving between CAD, fabrication, experiments, and measurement. You take ownership, work independently, and use experiments & data to reach conclusions. You naturally seek input, share findings, and contribute your technical perspective to the work of other engineers.

What you’ll get

  • A hard and meaningful challenge. Working on technical problems with real-world impact every day.

  • A truly hands-on engineering role, in an interdisciplinary team.

  • We take the work seriously, and we take the time to celebrate what we achieve together

  • Competitive salary and benefits
